Tue, 30 January 2007 Over the past 3 years the Environment Agency has been assessing the range of technologies available in Europe which could be used by Local Authorities to treat Municipal Waste. The initial objective of this work was to provide assistance and advice to allow LAs to meet their obligations under the Landfill Directive but the last three years have seen significant changes in the energy situation; costs have at least doubled, biofuels have become the 'flavour of the month' whilst the Russians have shut off gas and, most recently, oil pipelines. This presentation is intended to give an overview of the main findings of the Agency's studies into waste treatment with emphasis being giving to the role that such treatments could play in the new energy climate. Some discussion of biofuels options will also be included. Comments[0] |
