Wed, 28 February 2007 Following on from last years popular international themed breakfast meetings, this month we will provide a brief introduction to the China Europe Responsible Trade (CERT) Network. Frank Birkin and Jane Liu will discuss the business developments in China and an update on the environmental opportunities in the proposed twinning between Sheffield and Taiyuan. This will be followed by an outline of the opportunities available to SYGBC members, which includes the following Trade Mission. CERT is collaborating with the CBBC Trade Mission to China in April 2007. With excellent contacts, CERT will introduce you to business people, Taiyuan city officials and Shanxi provincial officials who are interested in Green Business opportunities with the UK. These opportunities are available to both environmental businesses and those businesses in any sector that offer environmental performance improvements in products or processes. Taiyuan is the capital of Shanxi Province and is a city with huge mining, chemicals, steel and manufacturing industries. The City enjoys 30% economic growth rates but has massive pollution problems to match and they need our help. Finally we will consider the reasons why this is the right time to go to China which is mainly because of their new sustainable-development focused National Plan. The Chinese government has announced expenditure over the next five years of around £90 billion on environmental improvements and their environmental industry is expected to grow by £66 billion (15% approx.) per annum during the same period.
